Open Form and Immersive Design

OBIEKTY is an audiovisual installation created as an immersive narrative about the relationship between design and craftsmanship. Its aim was not only to present the exhibits, but to build an experience in which the viewer can enter into a living relationship with the object, light, sound, and the exhibition’s narrative. The installation was conceived as an open space - one that does not separate the audience from the objects, but invites them to move among them and become part of the whole.

This way of constructing the experience refers to Oskar Hansen’s idea of Open Form. Instead of a closed, linear exhibition, the installation creates an environment in which the viewer is not merely an observer, but an active participant in an exhibition, an installation, and a performance at the same time. Placing the exhibits within steel frames, without physically separating them from the audience, strengthens the sense of proximity and direct contact with the presented objects.

Steel Frames, Pixel Mapping and Sound Design

The installation consists of four square steel frames placed directly on the floor, with lighting fixtures for pixel mapping arranged around each of them. Inside the frames are objects related to design and craftsmanship. The whole installation is complemented by a large LED screen, displaying films that expand the narrative of each object. Image, light, and spatial sound remain in perfect synchronisation, while the precisely designed sound design gives the entire experience rhythm, tension, and depth.

The experience begins with an audiovisual opening, in which light, image, and sound create a shared introduction to the exhibition’s narrative. The installation then moves into sequences dedicated to specific objects - additional lighting arrangements on the frames indicate the selected exhibit, while a film appears on the screen, expanding its context and its relationship to design and craftsmanship. In this way, the physical presence of the object and its audiovisual interpretation complement one another.

OBIEKTY treats the exhibition not as a static arrangement of elements, but as a dynamic, multisensory environment. It is a space in which visitors can move between the exhibits, view them from every side, and experience them not only as objects, but as parts of a larger story about process, material, function, and form.
